Grippers

The gripper is the component that actually picks the tuft of yarn and weaves it into the carpet. It is rather like a thin pair of pliers, with one gripper for each pitch of the carpet. Grippers are fitted, and operate in the same way, for all designs of Jacquard and Gripper Spool Axminster loom.

GEL make a wide range (around 40 different designs) of grippers for all types of Axminster Gripper Looms. Our grippers have a reputation for being tough and hard wearing.

Gripper designs have evolved over many years and some are only slight variants of others. For some of the very old designs, no formal drawing exists! If you do not know exactly which type of gripper you require, place a sample on a photocopier and make a silhouette of it. Fax this to us and we can easily identify its profile. If we know the pitch (or gauge) we can then make grippers to suit your requirements.
